The Ka'apor are about 1000 people. They inhabit the indian area High Turiaçu, 5301 km2 of Amazon rain-forest in the northern state of Maranhao. The Ka'apor had numerous and violent contacts with Brazilian society, until his pacification in 1928. People horticulturist, depend the cassava as the main source of calories. They grow about 50 species of plants and also hunt and gather fruit in the forest and fishing in small streams. The language Belongs to the Tupi-Guarani family and the name Ka'apor seems to mean: “footprints in the woods”.
