Chiesa del Carmine and adjoining convent, Ostuni #102669679
Description
Pictured is the Chiesa del Carmine and adjoining convent. It stands at the foot of Ostuni. It has a neoclassical façade and was originally from the fifteenth century, but enlarged and rebuilt in the seventeenth century, with the adjoining convent, to offer the Carmelites a more comfortable home. The Carmelites is a Roman Catholic religious order founded, probably in the 12th century, on Mount Carmel in the Crusader States, hence the name Carmelites.
