Hirundo rustica is the most widespread type of property in the world. Nests in Europe, Asia and North America, and wintering in Africa, South Asia, Australia and South America. It is closely related to humans, as it uses their building structures to build nests. They catch insects in flight and feed on them, and are therefore appreciated by man. In the villages there is a long-established superstition regarding the killing of property, which is why it is very protected.
