Baptistery at archeological site of Butrint in Albania #103062725
Description
With its total-immersion baptismal font set in a circular building decorated with columns and mosaics the Baptisery is one of the finest of its kind. It is ascribed to the middle of the 6th century AD. World Heritage Site by UNESCO Buthrotum was founded by exiles fleeing the fall of Troy. On arrival, Priamââ¬â¢s son Helenus sacrificed an ox, which struggled ashore wounded and died on the beach. Taking this as a good omen, the place was named Buthrotum meaning ââ¬Åwounded oxââ¬Â.
