Basilica at archeological site of Butrint in Albania #103062853
Description
The basilica was built at the beginning of the 6th century AD, underwent subsequent rebuilding and was still functioning as a church until the 18th century. World Heritage Site by UNESCO Buthrotum was founded by exiles fleeing the fall of Troy. On arrival, Priamââ¬â¢s son Helenus sacrificed an ox, which struggled ashore wounded and died on the beach. Taking this as a good omen, the place was named Buthrotum meaning ââ¬Åwounded oxââ¬Â.
