Temple in the College of Augustales in Parco Archeologico di Ercolano #103576023
Description
Pictured is a temple in the College of Agustales in the Parco Archeologico di Ercolano. The cult of Augustus was a society of freed slaves who were now making their way in Herculaneum as full citizens. The temple is dedicated to Hercules and was where the Augustales gathered together. The archaeological excavations of Herculaneum have returned the remains of the ancient city of Herculaneum , buried under a blanket of ashes , lapilli and mud during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79.
