Mosaic three dimensional tile floor in the House of Faun, Scavi Di Pompei #103944188
Description
Pictured is a dancing statue of faunus, the god of wild nature and fertility, also regarded as the giver of oracles. He was later identified with the Greek Pan. The statue is in the center of the impluvium in the house of Faun. The impluvium is a low basin in the center of a household atrium, into which rainwater flowed down from the roof through the compluvium. The House of Faun occupies an entire block in the Scavi Di Pompei. The archaeological excavations of Pompeii have returned the remains of the ancient city ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹of Pompeii , near the hill of Civita, buried under a blanket of ashes and lapilli during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD
