Detail blue roof of an Orthodox church and bell tower on the Greek island of Santorini #104527854
Description
Houses and churches in Greece are covered with a layer of plaster Sovas in Greek. This layer is made of calcium carbonate or lime stone. Now, calcium carbonate is very bright, so bright that under the Greek sun in the summer full of light can cause headaches. So people add a little blue to the white lime to `break` the brightness. Blue has always been the most common prophecy for the idea of ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹the sea and freedom.
