Description
It was Dacian settlement Rumidava and later, during the Roman occupation, the name was changed to Rupes rock or stone - in Latin. Rupea fortress advantageous elevated Cohalm Hill, overlooking the upper town, was constructed extensive and in centuries XIV-XVII century, as a refuge for the city and surrounding villages.
