Mandapam In Temple Tank At Tirumala , Andhra Pradesh, India Editorial Image

Swami Pushkarni, the name given to the Temple pond, is located on the northern side of the main Temple at Tirumala. The pond is spread over 1.5 acres. According to Hindu mythology the water is believed to be brought by Garuda, the Sacred Eagle, from heaven, (Vaikuntam) and hence considered most sacred. The tank has a Mandapam at its center which was constructed by Saluva King Narasimha Raya in 1468 AD. Devotees have a bath in the sacred tank before entering the Temple.
