Hibiscus rosasinensis Hibiscus rosasinensis is a flowering plant throughout the year in the genus Hibiscus which is often planted as a decorative tree. Hibiscus is the national flower of Malaysia . After achieving independence , the Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed to recommend the appropriate flower to be chosen as a national flower. At the end of 1958 , the Ministry of Agriculture proposed seven types of flowers to be selected as the National Flower of the Federation of Malaya, namely Bunga Kenanga , Bunga Bunga , Bunga Bunga , Teratai Bunga , Bunga Bunga , Cempaka Bunga and Tanjung Bunga . After discussion on July 28, 1960 , Bunga Raya was declared the National Flower of the Federation of Malaya . When Malaya joined Singapore , Sabah and Sarawak to establish Malaysia, Bunga Raya continued to be used as a National Flower. This flower is widely grown as an ornament throughout tropical and semi-tropical areas. The flowers are large, red, hard, but odorless. Various cultivars, varieties, and hybrids have been produced, with various flowers from white to yellow and brick and soft pink, with single and double set petals. This flower is used for shoe shine in parts of India .
