Description
The grain of pollen is the male gametophyte, it produces and contains the male gametes, and allows their displacement. He is sometimes mistaken for being a gamete. The pollen grain is homologous to gametophytes in other groups of Embryophytes eg fernal prothallus and some algae. It is part of the haploid phase of the life cycle of seed plants. It is a gametophytic generation in the botanical sense of the term.
