Temple of reverend St. Sergius of Radonezh is situated in Nikoloyamskaya street. The first wooden Church of St. Sergius was built here, in the Rogozhskaya Yamskaya Sloboda, in the early XVII century. To the 1720s wooden Sergius Church was replaced by a stone Church. The current building was built in 1818 by the parishioners. The Church of St. Sergius was outstanding in richness of interior decoration and the collection of ancient icons, basically of the first half of the XVII century, so that this Church could compete with the cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin. Modern three-tiered bell tower was built in 1864. In 1899 in the Church a building for religious-moral readings with capacity up to 1,000 people was consecrated. Also there were regularly organized concerts of sacred music. At the temple the wonderful chorus of the blind people sang, and it was one of the best in Moscow.
