Mittlere Bridge and Basel waterfront, Switzerland #10734931
Description
Mittlere Bridge in its current form dates back to 1905, but its predecesor was one of the most important crossings of the Rhine, as it used to be the last bridge over the Rhine from Lake Constance to the sea. The first bridge was build in 1226 and to protect it a new settlement was found and fortified on the left bank of the river - Kleinbasel. On the right back, visible in this picture, the old town of Basel lies. On the left of the image the St-Martin Church (14th century parish curch) overlooks the beautifull waterfront houses.
