JAPAN. Nara. Todaiji Temple Ordered in 743 by Emperor Shômu, Todaiji Temple was the largest wooden building in the world. the Daïbutsu-den, the bronze Buddha, 15 meters high, dates from 746. It weighs 437 tons, including 130 kilograms of gold. He is resting on a lotus flower, he raises his right hand as a sign of appeasement.
