Wild Crocus Flowers. The picture was taken north of Brownlee, Saskatchewan. Crocuses are found only on native grasslands on the prairies that have never been cultivated. They appear in the spring in April and last about a week. They are particular little flowers as they will often fail to appear if the conditions are not right in any year. It is an 'event' when we find them as agriculture encroaches on the remaining native grasslands.
