Calvary/Golgotha lat. Calvaria - skull, hill near Jerusalem where Jesus Christ died. Since baroque period, Calvaries were located in the end of the village, surrounded by a stone wall with three cross on the top Jesus is in the middle. In the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century, Calvaries were finished in Beram, GraÃÂiÃ
¡Ãâ¡e, Kringa and Zminj. It is a symbol of suffering. There are more Calvaries in the central Istria then in coastal area. Almost every place has it`s own Calvary: Pazin, Beram, Tinjan, Kringa, Gracisce, St. Peter in The Woods, Zminj, Boljun and Paz. The oldest is Calvary in Zminj, built in 1728.
