Title
Skeletons in the Boat House, Herculaneum #109620075
Description
Skeletal remains of Herculaneum inhabitants, trying to escape pyroclastic surge. Herculaneum was buried in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Unlike Pompeii, the volcanic material which covered the more affluent Herculaneum preserved wooden and other organic-based objects such as roofs, doors, and foods. Now a UNESCO heritage site, around 75% of the town is still buried.
