Description
Le Moulin de la Galette Cake Mill is a windmill located in the heart of Montmartre, where it crowns the most famous hill in Paris, France. This mill was not the only one of its kind in seventeenth-century France. The place was a municipality of vineyards, wheat fields and pastures that was then annexed as a neighborhood to the capital. Over the years and the revolutionary French history, the Moulin de la Galette became a dance hall. At present it is closed to the public. The area has been portrayed by artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Ramón Casas. In 1939, it was declared a Historic Monument.
