The famous Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine in Kyoto, Japan is the main shrine of the god of rice, Inari, who is also worshipped as the patron of business. The shrine sits at the base of Inari mountain, with its beginning tracing back to 711. In 965, the Emperor enforced that messengers carry written accounts of important events and these were given 16 shrines around Japan, including Inari. The highlight of the shrine are the thousands of torii gates that line the Fushimi path. There are said to be over 10,000 of the gates along the main shrine walkway. were donated by businesses as a way to give thanks for prosperity or for a wish that became true.
