Description
Montelbaanstoren was initially a defensive tower guarding the entrance to the inland canals from the port of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The lower part of the tower was hence build in 1512 together with the rest of the medieval fortifications. In 1606 the upper part of the tower made out of wood was attached for decorative purposes. The tower appears in several of Rembrandt's paintings. HDR image.
