Buceros bicornis The great hornbill or great Indian hornbill/great pied hornbill, is one of the larger members of the hornbill family. Its impressive size 95ââ¬â130àcm/37ââ¬â51àin long, with a 152àcm/60àin wingspan and a weight of 2.15ââ¬â4àkg/4.7ââ¬â8.8àlb and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. Itââ¬â¢s long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity. During the breeding season, female builds a nest in the hollow of a large tree trunk, sealing the opening and remains imprisoned there. Then it relies on the male to bring her food, until the chicks are half developed.
