Description
The Plague Column stands on the Graben shopping street in Vienna. It was built as a consequence of a promise made by emperor Leopold I during the plague outbreak of 1679. The architects were Matthias Rauchmiller, Lodovico Burnacini and the young J.B. Fischer von Erlach. The lowest six sculptures were made by Ignaz Bendl.
