Shirakawa World Heritage Historic Village #113420733
Description
Shirakawa-go, also known as Shirakawa Village is a Japanese mountain settlement in what was once considered a wild and unexplored region. Shirakawa-go is located in the north-western part of Gifu Prefecture, in the approximate center of Japan. The name ââ¬ÅShirakawa-goââ¬Â is taken from the traditional Japanese name for the region used in ancient times. It equates to the modern administrative area of ââ¬ÅShirakawa Villageââ¬Â. Additionally the village is situated in a wider historical region known as ââ¬ÅHidaââ¬Â. Today, the names are often combined, giving the name ââ¬ÅHida Shirakawa-goââ¬Â.
