Begonia, belonging to the family Begoniaceae, is one of the largest genera of the angiosperms, containing at least 1,500 species. They occur naturally in moist climates in tropical and sub-tropical Asia, Africa and Central America. The different species hybridise very readily with each other and this has led to numerous cultivars.
