San Francisco`s Unique And Historic Roxie Theater, 2. Editorial Image

By the mid 1950`s, San Francisco boasted of having over 70 movie theaters. But with most things, changing technologies and changing tastes brought about a sharp decline. Today, only nine of the original one remain. The Roxie Theater is the oldest, continually operating theater, opening in 1909, as the C. H. Brown Theater. Roxie, its name since 1933, is actually its seventh name. It is unique as, there has never been anywhere on the theaters marquee to list the names of the playing movies.
