Description
InnsbruckÃÂ is the capital city ofÃÂ TyrolÃÂ in westernÃÂ AustriaÃÂ and is theÃÂ fifth-largest cityÃÂ in Austria. It is in theÃÂ InnÃÂ valley, at its junction with theÃÂ Wipp valley, which provides access to theÃÂ Brenner Pass. Located in the broad valley between high mountains, the so-called North Chain in theÃÂ Karwendel AlpsÃÂ to the north, and theÃÂ PatscherkofelÃÂ andÃÂ SerlesÃÂ to the south. Innsbruck is an internationally renownedÃÂ winter sportsÃÂ center, and hosted theÃÂ 1964ÃÂ andÃÂ 1976 Winter OlympicsÃÂ as well as theÃÂ 1984ÃÂ andÃÂ 1988 Winter Paralympics. Innsbruck also hosted the firstÃÂ Winter Youth OlympicsÃÂ in 2012. The name translates as `Inn bridge`.
