The Museum Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachy is situated in the romantic area of Zamoskvorechye in front of the Tretyakov Gallery. The Museum Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachy has the status of the chapel at the Tretyakov Gallery. Much of its attire includes exhibit items from the museum collection. These are the icons of the central and side iconostasis, including the `Saint Nicholas`, ` Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Disciples,` and the altar crosses and liturgical objects. In the church-museum, in a specially designed icon-case is kept the greatest sanctuary and the world-renowned piece of art, the pride of the Gallery Collection ââ¬â the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God `The Virgin of Vladimir`. It is the Byzantine icon from the 12th century, which, according to legend, was painted on the wood of the table where Jesus Christ dined with Luke the Evangelist. On many occasions this icon has been near the troops defending Moscow and Russia from invaders. The icon is today considered the protector of Russia. Its presence in the church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachy allows combining the religious and artistic nature of this monument.
