The Camargue equine breed is a very old breed that lives in the swamps near the Rhône river delta as it has done for many centuries. This race was used in the Phoenician and Roman armies. Many equine breeds have an ascendant of blood camargue through the Iberian horse jaca. There is reason to believe that the jaca were part Celtic horse, and another part Camargue.
