Description
Pomegranate, deciduous trees or shrubs; simple leaves, usually opposite or clustered, without stipules. Flowers terminal or nearly terminal, solitary or clustered or forming cymes, nearly bell shaped, lobes 5-9, petals 5-9, many folds, imbricate arranged; ovules numerous. Berries are globose, with persistent calyx lobes at the top, thick skins, mostly seeded berries, and fruit ripening for 9-10 months. Outer flesh is semitransparent and juicy; inner testa leathery.
