Erice, used to used to be one of the most extensive towns of Sicily, is situated at the top of the mountain, 751 meters above sea level. The catedral`s bell tower, separate from the church, was built in late XIII century, in the time of Frederik III, who kept watch on Robert of Anjous`s fleet besieging Trapani.
