Title
The bronze Mechanics Memorial Monument, 2. #116299012
Description
Because this bronze statue was part of a fountain, paid for by James Donahue and dedicated to his father Peter, it was supposed to be called the Donahue Memorial Fountain. Completed in 1901, the earthquake of 1906 destroyed the fountain and it was never repaired. The Donahue family, owners of the Union Iron Works, the nations first West coast foundry, this monument became know over time as the Mechanics Memorial Monument.
