Description
The word Iris for the plant, comes to us from the Greeks, where it referred to their goddess of the rainbow. The name is applied here to the plant for it many vivid colors. Since the plant needs certain flying insects for its pollination, it has a nectar to attract the insects, then specially shaped leaves, so when the insect leaves, they take the pollen with them.
