Pictured is 9-foot-tall terra cotta sculpture of Marcus Whitman by renowned artist Alexander Stirling Calder. It is located in the exterior garden of the Presbyterian Historical Society, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Marcus Whitman, a medical doctor, led one of the first wagon trains along the Oregon Trail. Whitman College in Walla Walla Washington, is named for he and his wife Narcissa.
