Pictured is a portrait of Francis Alison by an unknown artist, in the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Alison was born in Ireland but came to the United States in 1735 to help the fledgling Presbyterian Church as a minister. He was a great intellect and was frequently employed as a teacher within and without the church. Three of his students were signers of the Declaration of Independence.
