This four story Woman`s Building in the Mission District was originally called the Turn Hall, because when built in 1910 it was for the Turnverein Exercise Movement, a group of German-American Gymnastic clubs. The Woman Center was founded in 1973 because of violence against woman. The building was finally purchased in 1979, and the murals, depicting both historic and fictional woman, was painted in 1994. The murals, like the organization itself, is for and of all woman with no regard to age or culture.
