Madonna Del Sasso Sanctuary, Locarno, Switzerland Royalty-Free Stock Photo

This pilgrimage church of the Madonna of the Rock overlooks the town of Locarno in southern Switzerland (Ticino area), being one of the most proeminent landmark of the area. The current building dates from 1596, but a chapel was build on the spot from 1487 marking the place where Madonna appeared to Bartolomeo da Ivrea, a Franciscan monk. Image was surprised shortly after sunset during an autumn day using HDR technique. A dense mist was rising from the lake, partially hiding the other side of Lake Maggiore.
