Vatican or Vatican City, officially State of the Vatican City is the seat of the Catholic Church and a sovereign city-state without coastline, whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, capital of Italy. With approximately 44 hectares 0.44 km² and with an estimated population of 1000 inhabitants, it is the smallest territorial entity in the world managed by a State. The Vatican City is a city-state that has existed since 1929. It is distinct from the Holy See, which dates back to early Christianity being the main episcopal epistle of 1.5 billion Roman Catholics Latin and Eastern from around the world. Ordinances of the Vatican City are published in Italian; official documents of the Holy See are issued mainly in Latin. The two entities still have different passports: the Holy See, as it is not a country, only deals with diplomatic and service passport issues; the Vatican City State takes care of common passports.
