Description
St. Isaac`s Cathedral, at the same time surprises and delights. The monolithic columns, a huge dome, statues of the 12 apostles and the sculptures on the pediment, a variety of bas-reliefs suggest that the construction put soul a lot of people. A modest Church, which once belonged to Peter I, was rebuilt and adorned all Russian monarchs. The latest version of architect Monferan in the style of classicism encouraged the townspeople to this day. Inside the Cathedral is decorated with malachite, gilded bronze, lapis lazuli, artfully paved with mosaics. Here worked such painters as Brullov, Bruni, RISS. In one of the Windows almost 30m stained glass window depicting the Risen Christ. In 1922 the wealth of the Church was seized for the needs of the poor. The Bolsheviks loaded 2T of silver and nearly 50kg of gold. Today you can climb the dome of the Cathedral and enjoy the magnificent views of St. Petersburg
