Although John`s Grill is not the oldest restaurant in San Francisco, opening in 1908, it was the first to open after the big earthquake of 1906. Centrally located in San Francisco`s downtown and near Union Square, John`s Grill has seen many artist and politicians, as well as many unknowns, over the years. Among the notables was writer Dashiell Hammett, whose most famous story `The Maltese Falcon` featured John`s Grill. For this, The Maltese Falcon Society was founded at John`s Grill.
