The mission, the purpose, of San Franciscos Russian Center is not just the preservation of the documents of Russian immigrants to America, but to Russian immigrants around the world, as well as those Russians who stayed behind. Since one way of changing history is to destroy history, this is one of the few places left in the whole world that has many of the documents, fully intact, of pre-revolution Russia of 1917. In addition, they have a Russian library of new and old books and documents. There are also lectures about Russian culture, where you get the feel of Russia with out leaving you own home countyr.
