Strangulation By Ivy Stock Photography

This tree in Combe Valley near Bexhill in East Sussex, England is being strangled by ivy. The incredible growth of the ivy vine binds the trunk and rises up the tree, covering its own leaves to block out sunlight. The pattern of the ivy has been copied in Anglo-Saxon art and jewellery and in carved wood art - it has a kind of mystical `Lord of the Rings` look to it.
