Description
Ina Coolbirth, was born Josephine Donna Smith in 1841 in Illinois, was a niece of Mormon Church founder Joseph Smith. The family made its way to Los Angeles when she was ten. On the way she read Shakespeare and Byrons poems. Ina finally settled in San Francisco, befriending many of the writers and artists of the day. This little patch on Russian Hill was dedicated to her memory in 1984, sixty years after her death.
