Description
Designed by Pierre Cuypers. The gilded statue of William II of Holland on the top of the fountain was designed by Ludwig Jünger. The fountain was a gift from the Hague bourgeoisie, in thanks for the restoration of the facade of the Grafisch halls Ridderzaal by Cuypers in 1880. Initiator was Victor de Stuers. The fountain was manufactured by C.J. Vincent & Co from Schiedam. During the construction of the Rijksmuseum building in Amsterdam, the International Colonial and Export Trade Exhibition was held in 1883 on the Museumplein in front of it. There this fountain was exhibited, as a model of traditional craftsmanship. In 1885 the fountain was placed on the Binnenhof. Behind it stood hall of knights in Den Haag.
