The San Francisco Flower Mart the way it looks now, 1. #121037009
Description
With the San Francisco Bay Area not only being home to many local flower growers, but as a port city, flowers from around the whole world come in through here. These flowers were initially sold from a small location and right off the sidewalks downtown, at the base of Lotta`s Fountain. After the earthquake of 1906, the city banned all outdoor selling. The first indoor location was a 5th and Howard Streets, but that was outgrown, so they moved to this location at 6th and Brannon Streets in 1956. As the city keeps growing, this building is soon to be torn down, and they will be temporarily located at the Embarcadero during the approximately three years it will take to rebuild the new and much bigger building. Not only are flowers sold here, they naturally are bought here, for all the floral shops from throughout the Bay Area.
