Description
The Vendanta Society of San Francisco has its beginnings with the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair when one of their teachers, or swami as they are called, Vivekanandaji visited San Francisco after the fair. Having enough students from the Bay Area by 1900, by 1904 was able to buy the land to build this, their first temple in the Western World, in San Francisco. The first two floors were finished by August 1905 and survived the 1906 earthquake and fire. The third floor and new roof were added in 1908. The various forms of towers and domes are intended, to represent the oneness of all religions.
