Metropolitan Theater turned Equinox Gym, 1. #121633757
Description
The Metropolitan Theater opened in April 1924 as a second-run theater, which was part of a chain of San Francisco theaters. By 1941 it went through extensive remodeling, including the name, which was shortened to simply `Metro`. With San Francisco by the mid-1950`s becoming the place with emerging film festivals, the Metro was upgraded to only first-run movies, and became the home for the San Francisco International film Festival, the oldest International Film Festivals in the country. It closed as a movie theater in 2006, was designated a City Landmark in 2009, and today operates at an Equinox Gym
