Wawrzyn Laurus L., also called laurel, laurel tree - a type of trees and shrubs from the laurel family Lauraceae. It includes two species, one of which noble laurel grows in the Mediterranean and the other Azorean laurel is found on the islands of Macaronesia. Both species are characteristic due to leathery and very aromatic leaves. Noble laurel is cultivated throughout the Mediterranean, and in the form of a narrow-leaved angustifolia it is also grown as a container plant in rooms in a cooler climate. The leaves of this species are a popular spice. Bay laurel is used in perfumery. In Ancient Greece, the laurel was dedicated to the god Apollo
