Quiver trees aren`t actually trees; they are in fact aloes Aloe dichotoma. These exquisite plants live to an enormous age and play a vital role in the life of this dry environment. Birds in this instance, lovebirds nest in them. The Bushmen used to hollow out their trunks and bigger branches to make quivers for their arrows. They produce attractive yellow flowers in winter - attractive to both birds and bees. They are truly iconic plants.Thy are adapted to amazingly hostile conditions, as can be seen from the photo.
