Title
The South San Francisco Opera House, 1. #125646010
Description
The oldest theater in San Francisco, going back to 1888, was originally in South San Francisco. This was at the time when San Francisco itself was still just a very small community cluster around what is today North Beach/Chinatown. As the city of San Francisco continued to grow, the area of Bay View Hunters Point, where the Opera House still stand today, became the most southernly part of San Francisco. The South San Francisco of today is a completely separate city in San Mateo County. The term `Opera House` is a period term, as no opera was ever actually performed here, it was always more of a theater, and even some of todays big name have preformed here. The building is now both a city of San Francisco and national historic landmark.
